Job Description: Successful candidates will provide in-person, video and over the phone interpreting from English to Portuguese and vice versa in the state of New Hampshire. This is a per diem position with no set schedule and availability strongly preferred Monday to Friday during business hours. It is required to be on-call on nights and weekends and/or holidays on occasions. Ideal candidates will have flexible schedules that can accommodate weeks with greater/fewer appointments.
Qualifications: Formal Medical and/or Legal Interpreter Certification/Training required. Fluent in written/spoken Portuguese and English language required. Associate degree preferred. Must pass oral/written/performance skills assessment(s) before hiring. Fluent in written and spoken English and target language(s): 6 months to 2 years of experience in providing bilingual/trilingual medical and/or legal interpreting service required. Strong interpersonal communication skills are necessary to interact with clients, families, and staff under potential stressful/emergency conditions. Familiar with the diversity of cultural/socio-economic backgrounds. Good interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills. Ability to function independently. Knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred.
Certifications: Certificate of completion of a Medical and/or Legal Interpreting program in the language of specialty required. IMIA membership preferred.
